Hi, As I have mentioned previously my house has 2 male intruders quite regularly. Honey is unfortunately a bit of a victim and hides when they are about.
This evening i came in to no sign of honey, but after i called a number of times she appeared very subdued, with no collar and limp tail - 'another accident' i sighed. When I tried to feel her tail she scooted away from me and she seemed very awkward when trying to sit down. She then disappeared again! when i was searching the flat for her i found the scene of a bust up under the spare bed - clumps of fur everywhere and the missing collar, Honey was hiding under my bed as far away from the world as possible!
Now my question is - can cats who have been spayed be 'assaulted' so to speak by a tom? would this explain her tenderness? Obviously I am jumping to worse case scenario here where her beautiful tail is broken and will have to be removed ( I am an over-reactor by nature) so some advice would hopefully calm me - and might save a trip to the vet!
Thanks! Jen

from what i know a male may still try to "hump" a spayed female my stepdaughter caught a tom on one of ours once and i asked the same thing .. and they sometimes bite the neck when doing so.. Maybe her tail is just a bit bruised from a tom grabbing her. I don't know if they actually enter the female or more sort of "dry hump" her . um excusse the phrase the problem is if she's been bitten she will possibly be sore. Martha came in one day limping and seemed tender round her tail and her tummy, i noticed saliva on her back end, i took her to the vets and she had bite wounds on her back end and an infection had set in, the vet said the bites were fresh, but no way of knowing if it was a cat or dog . she needed anti biotics and pain killers but once the 1st dose via injection kicked in she was walking better.. the rest of the course was tablets....if she will let you look for puncture wounds.. a few moths later Martha was grabbed by a staffie that was off the lead.. i heard cat screams and ran into my garden. the owner was trying to get his dog off Martha, his stupid mate walked away and left him . so it was upto me and the owner to get the dog off. thankfully it was a pup and did not actually get a very good hold, a lot to do with the owner doing his best.. we avoided a vet trip that time poor Martha was more shocked than hurt.. bites near Honeys butt will make it harder for her to sit.. i'm sure someone else will know more though.. these 2 males sound a worry though..

Well, Honey was no better this morning and off her food so we have been to the vets. There is a wound on her tail but he thinks it might be broken, which could mean amputation! The thought of her having to lose her tail makes me so sad, so fingers crossed the painkillers and antibiotics work and she starts waggling it about again! Can't imagine what she'll be like without one!

Well Honey is back from the vet. the Xray was clear ( phew) but she has a nasty inch gash thats infected and swollen - no wonder she wasn't moving her tail about!!! I already keep Honey in when I'm out - i had literally let her out after work then nipped t the shop 20 min tops! typical! cat flap is blocked and honey is already regaining her confidence. So glad she is going to keep her tail - as for that Tom cat , he'd better watch out!!!!

so glad it's not too serious, it's quite scary though how quickly a wound can get infected. The 1st time Martha was bitten the vet said the bites were quite fresh yet she was in loads of pain and the woulds were full off puss
