We had lost our cat, smarty in feb of 2008.
We registered with the CPL for grey kittens! Several months passed and no luck. However my Mothers friend had taken in a cat which was 'fat'. On taking it to the vets it was found to be heavily pregnant. It gave birth to several kittens, one of which was grey! two were offered to us and we accepted.
That weekend we got a call from Pauline ( cat protection league) she had two special grey kittens if we wanted them. We went down to look after hearing about their plight! Poppy had been used as a breeding machine at a very early age! This resulted in the cat protection league rescuing her and the two remaining kittens.
On meeting the kitten and cat, we as a family fell in love. Poppy although timid was loving and the kittens were gawjus. We had to have them!
The trouble resulted in my mum having to let her friend down but it was easy enough to find them.
So with preperations made we collected our three new cats!
the first few weeks were nervous, as poppy hid but slowly became more outwards. She would hiss and spit but then rub your hand in love. The kittens due to problems were fussy on what they ate.. they would only eat chicken or ham. They became a good ppart of the family!
The kittens loved playing running around and chasing one another and playing rough and tumble much to my horror as it hurt! They loved cat nip mice to the extent Rascal would guard it! Was cute to watch!!
They loved affection, maisy was a lap kitten! loving to sleep beside you or on you! She was also the most vocal cat that I have ever heard. Miawowing and purring and making some form of growling noise- this was usually when she was hungry! It was the cutest thing!
However one day I came home to find Maisy was unable to walk properly, she was rushed to the vets. She was given a shot of antiinflamitaries and over night improved. however over time both kittens got problems with their back legs, they couldnt walk and were in pain.
They were put on metacam and kind of improved. It came time for their neutering and xrays were also done. their rib cages were caved in.
Maisy was so bad she wouldnt be neurtered. Rascal was neutuered.
The diseases they had were congenital and no way could anyone have predicted what would happen. They were very happy and very active kittens and still were! I was shocked to find them in this state as they had been hyper cats!
they never got better and with very strong painkillers and anti inflamatories they didnt improve. They were put down a week apart from one another.
It was a very sad time as they were gawjus kittens.
