We recently adopted these two adorable hooligans and in just the few weeks we've had them they have taken over our house...our lives...our bed....
They had really bad cat flu when they were first found by CP but with lots of wonderful nursing by Liz and our vet Neil they pulled through and became two of the friendliest wee mites with THE biggest appetites I have ever met ;D Merlin still has a slightly weepy eye from his flu but is otherwise as fit as a flea
They came to us at around 11 weeks old and we got their vaccinations all sorted and booked them both in to be neutered on February 5th.
But then the fun and games started on Wednesday just gone *14th* Tabitha came into season and started calling and offering her bum to both Merlin and my husband Neil Merlin, bless him, thought it was all one huge game and just kept wrestling her to the floor in a necklock and then washing her ears (aww bless - teenage boys: so slow to mature LOL). This was at 8.30pm so I took their food up and told Neil I'd ring the vets surgery first thing if Tabitha was still in season the next morning. Merlin then slept in the living room that night with Neil whilst Tabs was with me in the bedroom - I just wasn't taking any chances of that 5 watt lightbulb suddenly going off in my gorgeous boy's head!!!
Tabitha seemed quiet the next morning so I thought that perhaps it had just been a surge of hormones or something but no - she soon started yowling and padding her hind legs at us all so it was onto the phone, book him in and get him in the basket.
As we live in Alnwick we dropped Merlin off at the surgery and spent the next few hours in Newcastle until it was time to pick him up once more and take him home. He yelled his head off all the way home.....I'm sure he was saying ''sore...sore''
Tabitha was overjoyed to see us all once we got home as she'd been on her own all day and I was pleased that she didn't hiss at Merlin even once, despite him probably smelling of anaesthetic. Him? He just curled up in front of the heater and went to sleep for the next few hours
Today he has completely recovered and is back to the naughty kitten that we both know and love - beating up his sister, knocking things over, just generally causing mayhem etc ;D
Tabitha on the other hand has STOPPED being in season!!! This has completely bamboozled me and Neil says it was just her idea of a joke.......pretend to be in season and her brother's nuts will be taken off!!!! Pretty extreme joke, eh? ;D Poor Merlin But Murphy's Law dictates that if I had NOT taken Merlin along to the vet then Tabs would have remained in season and there's just no way I was going to risk any accidents happening!!!
Tabitha is still booked in for February 5th though - she's not getting off lightly
Cats, eh....never a dull moment!
