I don't think they're presents for me but Mols is bringing in live birds. I think she might be bored but she gets played with just as much as she used to.
Before moving, all the things she brought into the house were dead. Why the sudden change? Any ideas?

Maybe she is bringing them straight back to the safety of her own home. I had four mice last month all in the space of a week, I came in from work and there was a cat trotting around the house with one, I have discovered a mouse is living under my shed, she must have had babys and unfortunately I think they must have all ventured into my cat enclosure. I thought mice were clever, I am seriously wondering why this mouse wants to lodge next to three cats.

Mols was obsessed with the back of the fridge on Thursday. It was only at Friday lunchtime that we realised there had been a live bird behind it the whole time!! Poor thing. My mam and brother managed to catch it and release it but it spent at least 24 hours there.
I know Molly likes to hunt (she's never been the best at it - she keeps her head down but her tail sticks up, swishing, and gives the game away!) but it's only since moving that she's brought in things that are alive.

I think myself lucky that Honey has only ever brought me leaves and the odd crisp packet! Don't think she has quite grasped the concept of hunting, thankfully!

I had a cat growing up (Thomas) that used to bring me dandelion heads! Much better than the frogs that Bits used to bring home.

Molly brought in another mouse today - just 5 mins before I was due to leave for work!! Naturally, I'm not going to leave a live mouse in the house so yelled at my brother to get his butt out of bed and help me catch it.
I say, "help me catch it" but really I just kinda stood there occassionaly emitting a girly squeal if it looked like it was going to come near me.
Mols looked pleased with herself throughout the whole thing!
I ended up getting a later bus into work and was 10 mins late but at least we managed to get the mouse out!

Sounds like you are having a busy time Donna, I have just come in from work to find a dead mouse in my enclosure, I am wondering if its the mouse from under the shed, I will have to get my torch out later and have a look.
I cant believe all this activity goes on and my cats dont even go out, yesterday there was a huge spider and one wizzened up slug, brought back into the kitchen.

Last year it was butterflies - I'd come home from work and find between 10 and 20 of them in my living room cos I had a butterfly tree in my garden. Molly would bring them in and then go out for another one - if they went flew out of the living room into the hall or kitchen, she'd catch them and take them back!!

Ok, forget the live ones, she's now bringing in decomposing ones!! There's plenty of other cats in the street and I think she's picking up birds that they've caught. The ones she's bringing in have definately been dead for a little while and I don't think she would have caught them and then left them for a few days before bringing them in. All I can say, i'm glad I have my brother on hand to pick them up

I have a theory that the bringing in of live food is totally logical when you consider what time of year it is.
During the summer months, cats in colonies would be bringing up their young, so our domestic cats find themselves behaving 'out of character' by following their instincts in teaching the young of the colony how to hunt, and the best way of doing that is by bringing 'live' food to the colony.

Hmmm, maybe I should have words with Mols and let her know that I think I know how to hunt?? lol
That does make sense though.

I just accept the fact that my cats think I am totally incompetent at hunting and are trying to educate me ;D Mind you last night they brought a huge cockroach type thing in, but nobody ate it, I had to remove it from the kitchen floor , thats the part I hate eew.

In just a few days, we've discovered just how good Mols was at keeping the house bug free (when not bringing things in) - we've had to use fly spray for the first time in months cos of a blue bottle getting in the house and there was a huge spider my brother had to catch - normally, we'd get Mols to eat them!!
