The vet has recommended a glucosamine supplement I have tried the Reiki but she doesn't sit still long enough for me but I will persist.

Good idea if you can get her to take it.
Rhus Tox is another good treatment, but again, its getting it into the cat.
Although.... how about trying Sardines in tomato sauce once a week... that would at least provide a good oil to ease the joints.
And usually they love tomato sauce

Isnt it Copper that helps arthritic pains? Lindar, lets face it, its worth trying, magnetic may help, who knows for sure. Rhus Tox daily is also worth trying. www.denes.co.uk/health/product/77/rhus_toxI havent used it on a cat, but I have on a dog and it was brilliant. Just be careful, if you get tablets, not to handle them at all, the chemicals on our skin contaminate them. Drop one onto a teaspoon, take another teaspoon and use it by placing it in the same position above the first one, and lower and crush the tablet.. You can then drop the powder direct into the mouth, and stand a good chance of enough being swallowed.

Hi Chris, Gracie does seem more mobile after nearly 2 months on cosequin. Mind you it could just be that she is warm and dry and getting plenty of food. She can move quite fast when chasing one of my cats but I don't think will ever climb or jump again.she seems happy in her little world

Gracie my foster cat has been unwell for nearly a week. Since last Friday she seems somewhat confused. Although she is eating well she is very clumsy and is walking through food. I think she may have had a mini stroke. I am not sure what she can see. She has also stopped using her litter tray and she just goes to the toilet wherever she is lying. Her mobility is much the same . the vet started her on Metacam a three days agoand thought perhaps she was too sore to use litter tray. My gut instinct is that it is more than her arthritis. She has not lost weight and is not drinking excessively or urinating more frequently but her urine is very dilute and hardly smells. She is going back to vets end of week I am thinking that the time has come for her to be put to sleep it is so difficult to make a decision. any advice welcome

Linda, its always hard having to make a decision like this, but you have to trust your gut feeling. Remember, you know the cat, the Vet does not. A Vet can only be truly efficient in what they do, by listening to you, thus allowing you both to work together. And most Vets I know do that, so dont be afraid to tell the Vet what you are thinking and ask them their feelings on the case. Its just as difficult for the Vet as they know everyone wants to see the animal they care for get well. If you feel its time, then its time.. There is a look an animal gives you that says it all..
Never an easy decision to make..

Linda, trust me, you will know when its time, and that time could be years hence or in an hours time.
The last one I had who was put to sleep, was hit by a car 8 years prior, and had never been able to have an easy bowel movement since then. She had 5 procedures done to clear the bowel, but when it came to no. 6 I knew she had had enough, as I saw the look..
Occasionally they cannot give you that look due to dementia etc., when that happens, you rely on your gut instinct..
Lets hope Grace improves a little with the Metacam..

;)Thanks Chris I know what you mean I used to have a diabetic cat who was fairly ok on insulin for 18months then he used to fit about 4 am every morning when the vet suggested phenobarbitone to control the seizures I knew I and he had come to that point it was the right decision

Hi Chris just to update you I made the decision to have Gracie put to sleep today. Although her mobility had improved with the metacam and she was eating well she has only managed to use her litter tray about 4 times in the last 12 days. I could have kept going for another week but I felt that I was just delaying the inevitable. The vet thought her behaviour might be due to a small stroke or perhaps dementia I also had to be practical but that doesnt make a sad end any easier

Linda, I am so sorry...
No words can make it easier, but you know you did the right thing.
My Chellie, suffered Dementia, and it was terrible, hearing her cry so loudly simply because she was lost in the hallway.
Her world must have been so frightening for her.
Now Gracie is at peace, and you must ask yourself, what greater gift can we give?
You did the right thing..
