Susan, I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my Molly. She's still really skittish still and I'm out the house 12 hours a day since moving. I definately have lost some of the bond I used to have with her as she now prefers cuddling in with my brother (who doesn't work so is home most of the day) Even when I let her in my bedroom she stays at the foot of the bed instead of trying to cuddle in. Also, my mam and brother don't talk to her and she has seemed a little more stressed recently - I admit it's partly my fault because I'm stressed at work myself so I'm not really spending quality time with her cos her "cuddle time" is usually around the time I'm going to bed! I'm getting up at 5.30am and she's rushing outside to chatter to the birdies so I don't see her before work and when I get home at 7pm, she's usually more interested in getting fed and then going outside to defend her territory! I used to talk to her loads, just stupid little things and I've noticed that as I've got less vocal with her, she's got less vocal too and less playful. She's definately a happier cat when she's talked to so I'm going to start making an effort! I know that takes it away from the subject slightly but I was trying to prove that talking to your cat, as silly as it seems, does work!

I had the house to myself on Saturday so I sat and read my book out loud but the parrot seemed more interested than Molly!! However, on Sunday, she was back to following me everywhere so I went in the garden with her and I played with her - if you hold a bamboo cane and run it through the grass, she likes to chase it so I looked like a right nit running around the garden with a bamboo cane going "come on Molly" and "good guuurrrlll" when she caught it!! lol

Its lovely to see Archie, I can see why you couldnt resist him, did he have his ear canal removed whilst you were fostering him?

hi Fyona. I fostered archie last december and adopted him in march. He had lived outside for approx 6 years and had badly infected ears which led to perforation of both ear drums. On further tests he was found to have a cancerous tumour in one ear so he had major surgery last december while I still was a fosterer. I think it was the several trips to the vets and his uncomplaining personality which made me adopt him. I am hoping that is the end of his problems. He has good hearing on one side.

can anyone give me some handy tips I have bee given an old cat to foster 10-15 years old who hopefully will be starting treatment for her bad arthritis. She can potter about but is ubnstaedy on her feet can get to her food and the litter tray {most of the time} She is comfortable and warm and is living in an small area so she doesn't have too walk too far. Any tips re diet or treatment she has a good appetite not keen on dry food. I am assuming she will be given anti inflammatory drugs

Hi Linda
Good to hear from you again..
Re your old cat, who sounds older than 10 to 15 years.. but I suppose a younger cat can be very arthritic also.
When a cat is slowing up like that, all you can do is pander to its needs. If it is used to wet food, then give it wet food, there are lots of different types especially made for Senior Cats which contain less protein and are easily digested.
If you can get some Royal Jelly capsules and break the contents into her food, it could help her considerably...
I would get some cheap tuna, drain it, and add the Royal Jelly to that, but be prepared for her saying.....no way, I am not eating that !
Royal Jelly is a good arthritis treatment, and totally safe for animals.
I would also try a little Reiki massage.
Now dont panic... its easy..
Just hold your hand around 5 -6 inches above the cats back till you feel some heat.. then gently work down the areas of the hips, legs, shoulders and neck using a slow circular movement.
Remember you are not actually touching the cat, it is all done within the aura ( energy field )
It can work wonders for people too...
Good luck and let us know how it goes

It cannot do her any harm, so always worth a try..
Its a method I have used to great success with both dogs and cats.
