Welcome Cath !
My son was highly allergic too, but we de-sensitised him by persistance. He now is married and still has asthma, but has a cat of his own and is fine with that.
Hopefully, you will be re-united with Alfie again

Good for you for not giving up on an animal regardless of your condition. Weve got quite a few members on the site i moderate on who also have it but manage to keep it under control.
Lots of "Come home" vibes for Alfie.

When I was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 7, my mam was told she should get rid of the 3 cats we had. She didn't and it didn't harm me! My asthma is still set off by anything with fur but I am sort of immune to Molly - so long as she's kept out the bedroom, then I don't have any probs. Even when she is allowed in the bedroom, there isn't a huge difference in my asthma except for needing a quick puff of my inhaler when I wake up
