The cats I had growing up would eat anything - and I mean anything!! Bits loved nutella - we couldn't have it in the house cos he would attack you for it!! You'd be sitting, minding your own business, when this black and white bullet would whizz past you and your toast with nutella on it would be gone! I'm sure we all know cats shouldn't have chocolate but there was just something about nutella that he loved! Minnie liked spicy food - Golden Wonder used to do curry flavour crisps and they were her favourite. She would sit there looking up at you with big eyes (and she had really big eyes anyway!) till you gave in - with more than a little guilt cos you weren't sure that a cats stomach could cope with it!! Tom liked stinky food - especially those dried whitebait you can get (the smell turns my stomach!). Molly on the other hand is not keen on any "human" food that you would expect cats to love whatsoever - even fresh chicken! She doesn't like fish (even fish cat food!), beef or lamb. She eats a little pork/ham but after a couple of mouthfuls, leaves it. She's partial to a bit of mashed potato (made with butter), the sauce from baked beans, the garlic butter from chicken kiev (but not the chicken) and flapjacks. For about 4 months after getting her, she would pinch coffee too - thankfully she doesn't do that anymore! I let her have the mash and tomato sauce once in a while but I try to keep the garlic and flapjacks away from her. Mols doesn't see the whiskers treats and felix lickins as "treats" - they're something she gets every day and sometimes I make her give me her paw before she does, so I would love something that she could have maybe once a month or so, as a real treat but she doesn't like anything! It's good in a way cos she doesn't greed, but it would be nice to give her something that makes her eyes light up that won't cause her problems! Any suggestions? Or should I just start limiting her treats so that's what they become - treats? And is there any "human" food that your cats like? What's your view on giving them "human" food?

My cats wont eat anything but cat food, I have tried them with chicken and fish, but no way will they eat it, maybe its my cooking They absolutely love pets at homes tins of food tuna flakes at 57p per tin, which they have one between them once a week, that makes their eyes light up. As for treats, my parents bring them fish sticks from Aldi, but its hard work to get them as I put them in a ball that dispenses them when they roll it. I sound such a meanie lol.

mine don't get a lot of human food, but they all go mad for chicken.. Molly especially .. she just knows if i have chicken..In fact it's the only time Molly will fight for food........When i fill the bowls with cat food she's happy to let the 2 torties have their fill then she'll eat in piece..........BUT if i give them chicken she'll growl and smack them .. I have had times when all 3 girls have had a bit of chicken, none of them go for each other bit but still they all growled as they ate ... I get tins of cheap tuna as a treat for them and tins of sardines or makeral, they love that....... Yrs back when i had Tabbatha she'd go mad for sweetcorn, cheesy wotsit crisps, cheese... peppers when i got beef and peppers in black bean sauce fom the Chinese .. I think she would eat most things cos before i got her someone else had her but changed their mind and threw her out (8 weeks old ) the couples neice picked her up and tried to convince her mother to keep the cat but the mother said just 1 night while she tried to get her sister to take the cat back........ then the local "nutter" said he'd have her....The plan was a treat for his 3 rottweilers .......... So i said i'd have her ........ The kids had been feeding her on junk like sausage rolls ... she was constapated cos of the food........ I asked at the pet shop what to do he said if she was eating and drinking proper cat food give her 24 hours and if she'd not gone poopie ask the vet for a laxative........ 12 hours later she was pooping like a good un ....She was a lovely girl and we were friends for 7yrs .. she went out one day and broke my heart cos she never came home ... Still though she had a very happy 7yrs , I'm so glad i got her before that animal got his hands on her

Good for you cheryl! I hate people like that - it's not the animals fault either but irresponsible owners. I tried Mols with tuna but she looked horrified!! My brother has discovered she likes licking the flavouring off cheesy wotsits.... the orange nose wasn't a good look! The parrot was upset cos he loves them too and he didn't get any! lol

Its worth bearing in mind the foods that are dangerous to your pets:
- chocolate - raisins/grapes - onions - garlic - nuts - fruit pips/kernels - raw potato - yeast / raw bread dough - hops - coffee grounds/beans - tea leaves
Some more dangerous than others but I say its best to avoid them altogether to stay safe, oh and anything made for humans is potentially far too fatty and/or high in sugar for cats so be careful.

Brewster goes absolutely berserk whenever a tin of tuna is opened.
I once got a takeaway chicken pizza and left it on the sofa whilst paying a visit to the bathroom - thought he wouldn't be fussed by pizza. Anyway, I came back to find the little bugger splatting pieces of chicken to his paw with his nose covered in melted cheese. If I get a Dominos pizza too he goes crazy trying to get into the empty box through the hole for the sauce container. I guess he must like Pizza!

Thanks for the list, Emma - I already knew most of these which is why I'm not happy that Mols seems to love garlic... well that and garlic breath on a cat! I told my mam and brother to keep their coffee cups away from the cat but they didn't believe that she would be tempted - till they saw her with her nose in a cup!! She doesn't drink it anymore, she just seems to like sticking her nose in and having a good old sniff. I've decided to cut down on her treats so that they become proper treats and I'm only going to give them to her once or twice a week in her treat ball so she has to work for them. She won't eat proper meat and I don't want to give her processed meat. I'm not sure that this will work because, even though I've told them not to, my brother is feeding her while I'm at work with wet food and treats. She usually gets 2 pouches a day and as much dry food as she wants but he has been giving her extra pouches. I thought she was stressed again because she'd not been eating her dry food and that her treats were going down really quickly but didn't figure it out until recently. I don't want Molly to eat only wet food as the dry stuff helps keep her teeth clean and she will not eat the dry food unless she has no other option. I've tried telling my brother that she's my cat and therefore, if he wants to feed her, he has to stick to the rules but he won't listen. He said it was cos she kept meowing at him and my suggestion of talking to her was silly!! So, I've told him not to feed her at all. If she doesn't associate him with food, then she won't meow at him for food..... she'll just meow at him for other things!! I'm not being unreasonable, am i? He thinks it's mean to deny the cat catmeat if she prefers it to dry food but the dry food agrees with her tummy more - I had some whiff free days recently when she was stressed and wouldn't touch her catmeat!! I just can't seem to get it through that she has limited wet food for a reason I've even considered phasing out the pouches as it seems too rich for her but I'm going to look on pet planet and try some of the more expensive food (she usually has felix). Of course, it's easier said than done as she doesn't like fishy catfood.... or beef.... or lamb...... unless it's with rabbit.... sigh! Oh, and you can't just feed her the same 2 or 3 flavours, cos then she gets bored and won't touch it! Cats - who'd have them?? lol

Anna - you just reminded me of about 10 years ago when I came downstairs on a Sunday morning to discover Minnie with her head halfway up the bum of a semi-defrosted chicken.... she'd even chewed through the plastic wrapping!! Tom was sitting watching her like she was mad! And we have a pic of Minnie taking a bite out of bolognase pizza....

I give mine a small amount of wet food for breakfast, and the same in the evening, but theres always a small bowl of kibbles in their room as well for during the day, so their getting the best of both that way
