Hello, Doogie is now home thank goodness. Poor little thing, his eye actually looks fine and despite being shaved in that area it is hard to notice due to his markings. The worst thing is his little collar he has to wear for 5 days (we have called it his bonnet as it has a little bow at the side). We really thought he would get home and pass out and fall into a deep sleep, unfortunately he hasn't settled since he got home at 5.30 - he keeps staggering around and his little legs give way but he is determined not to lie down (I think it may be due to his bonnet). He was allowed scrambled eggs, white fish or chicken so he has been eating a fair bit of chicken. I just hope he settles soon as he must be so tired as he keeps nearly falling over Bless him - hopefully he will give in soon! He goes back to the vets on Monday for a check up but judging by his determined efforts tonight I think he should be fine! Will keep you all posted and thanks for your kind thoughts, Jo xx

Awww i'm pleased he's home safe and sound Jo. He'll get used to the collar after a couple of days don't worry. When Rosie was spayed she wouldn't settle either, infact she went hyper wanting to jump up on the t.v. which i had to try and stop her doing, but when i did she hissed and growled at me so i wondered if she had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic?. Hopefully Doogie had a good night sleep last night and we look forward to the updates

When Mols had to wear a collar she walked around like she was trying to step over things constantly!!
I'm so pleased that he's home and on the mend!

My Molly had a collar after Maggie died cos Molls took to fur pulling cos she was upset .. she looked comical trying to get around. It was awful though cos the collar made her more depressed but she'd got sore from licking and biting so we had to stop the cycle......Every so often she seems to resort back to a bit of fur pulling..she gets herself into a mess so i have to watch she does not get any "hot spots" and get sore.......Just now she's got a beautiful coat, hopefully she's given up on fur pulling..

Well - he has finally given in and lay down flat as he has been just sitting with his head drooping low, so that is good. He is eating fine actually (mum has a cake display holder thingy that is quite high up so he is able to eat food off that without his collar getting in the way!) It is just quite sad, as he keeps going to the door to want out (as if!) and has tried to wash himself but can't unfortunately. For once in my life I am wishing away the weekend so it will be Monday at the vets and hopefully he can have his collar off.... Thanks for all your comments - it is really reassuring to hear them all. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery as he is getting himself quite depressed! Jo xx

I can understand how you feel. hopefully once the collar is off, he may begin to feel a lot better, its probably bad enough having an o[peration, without having a restrictive collar, however he will realise it is all for the best.

Awwww bless him, bu5t that's good that he's eating. Make sure he's drinking ok as well Jo. I don't know how deep the collar is but you can trim them down. The collar i had for the girls when they were spayed was huge, so they said to trim some off. Theirs was about 41/2"-5" deep and they were able to eat much better, but it was still large enough so they couldn't get at their incision, but with Doogies situation it might have to be a little bigger incase he catches his eye with his paw?.

Hello, Well, despite sitting at the front door wanting to go out and getting fed up with his collar he is doing OK His appetite is good and he is now lying down flat on his favourite chair so at least he is resting properly now. He has to have a pill twice a day and we have been slipping it into an incision of a piece of cooked chicken and handing it to him so we can make sure that it is eaten We hope that when he goes to the vet on Monday evening that he will be allowed his collar off - I don't think that we can cut it unfortunately, but it is so sad as he keeps walking into things as it sticks out past his useful eye. His wound looks really good, no swelling or weeping from it so that is good news. We shall post a picture of him once he is feeling more himself! Jo x

HURRAY!! The vet said he was healing very well so we have taken off his collar and the first thing he did was scratch behind one of his ears for about 20 seconds! He is so happy - already he has been playing with his ping pong ball and string, and has been giving himself a thorough wash. He has been washing his eye but not vigorously so we are hoping that he is going to remain gentle with it. He has to see the nurse on saturday for his final checkup but he seems a different cat to what he has been since Christmas already. Thanks so much for all your kind support and comments - I shall definitely post a picture of him once he has regrown some fur as he looks so cute despite only one eye and people certainly shouldn't be worried about how their pet looks after such an operation. Jo xx (phew - off for a glass of red wine!)

Great news!! I bet he was desperate for a scratch - I know how awful it is when i'm washing dishes and get an itchy nose - you can never find a tea towel to dry your hands can you?

Awwww bless his little heart, that's great news! ;D I bet that scratch was good as well, I remember Rosie and Sophie having a good one when their collar was removed after their spay.
